Karen has been a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 1993. She is a member of the AICPA, and the MSCPA.

Karen earned a Summa cum laude Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, from Western New England College, now Western New England University, in 1990, after having earned an Associate Degree in Business administration with High Honors from Berkshire Community College in 1988. She has had advanced training in accounting, tax, and general business management through courses offered by various institutions.

Karen began her career in public accounting in the middle market group of Price Waterhouse, now PricewaterhouseCoopers, in Hartford, CT in 1990. After two years, she returned to her native Berkshire County and worked for a small local firm before establishing the firm of Moynihan & Kowalczyk, P.C. in 1995. In 2007, Moynihan & Kowalczyk, P.C. merged with Adelson & Company , P.C. and Karen became a director in the new firm Adelson Moynihan Kowalczyk PC., now Adelson & Company PC. In 2013 Karen made the decision to open her own firm and Karen M Kowalczyk PC was established.

Karen's primary areas of concentration include income tax planning and preparation for individuals, trusts, estates, and business entities, financial statement preparation and analysis, management advisory and business consulting services, part-time CFO services, and accounting and bookkeeping services. She has a wide range of experience with professional service and business service entities, real estate development companies, construction companies, and retail establishments.

Karen is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pittsfield Cooperative Bank. She is also an active member of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce and the Berkshire Business and Professional Women’s organization. Karen is a 2002 graduate of the Berkshire Leadership program and an alumnus of its steering committee for 2003.
